“定期寿险”的对称，以人的生存作为给付条件的一种保险。定期生存保险的特点是只对被保险人在合同规定的期限满期时生存者，保险人才给付保险金，如果被保险人在规定期限内死亡，保险人就不负任何给付责任。这种保险的费率是低廉的，给付的金额却是优厚的。因为有一部分被保险人不能生存到预期的日期而丧失了获取保险金的机会，他们留下的保险金就均分给满期未死亡的人。
